I want to know your definition of art. In your own words, as few or as many as you would like, tell me how you think art can be defined.

This is a difficult one, Stephanie. Why in the world do I ask even my youngest students to define art? Even more puzzling is why I can’t remember all of the wonderful answers they shared with me earlier this fall.
To me, art is any creative expression of idea or emotion which effectively touches the human spirit.
Well, I consulted the global dictionary (Wikipedia) on this one and still had to formulate my own definition. I have always felt that art is anything that is created with a focus, skill, and precision. I have seen art in the way ants build a tiny hill; the way a gazelle runs; the way a stallion gallops; the way Mathmeticians sold equations; the way a student completes a project; the way the sun rises on an autumn morning. Art is wherever nature is…thus art is everywhere for us to enjoy.
“A wide variety of activities resulting in creative artifacts that speak to the emotional aspects of Man.”
hmm, sound like pure baloney. I know art when I see it! gm
Thanks for posting such thoughtful and thought provoking answers! I look forward to reading the rest!
Check out this link entitled What is Art? Excerpts from Leo Tolstoy. Talk about baloney, Greg. I can’t even begin to read it because they’re no pictures : )))

If there is no struggle, then there is no art.
(But how do we know if the artists struggled? This is where the moment lies!)
I think there are two defnitions of Art
1.A group of symbols,words,pictures, and
2.Teh visual rep. of ideas or feelings in the physical world.
