First Meeting – Guidelines

Student Critique WritingStudy Group

Highland

Springs High School
Group Coordinator: Stephanie SlatnerThe purpose of this study group is to work together to create new strategies that incorporate technology that will assist students in writing more comprehensive art critiques. This will focus on helping them, organize their thoughts, include appropriate and decisive vocabulary, and complete an essay length written critique. All exams in art include an essay and critiques are usually incorporated in that. The SOL writing scores for our school are also lacking. This study group will keep the focus on our current curriculum while helping students with their general writing skills and their ability to write and talk about art.The other art teachers at my school and I will be working as a small group to facilitate and try new ideas utilizing technology whenever possible to help students critique art  in written form. We will use blogs, wikispaces, and podcasting during our trials.

Does this sound doable? ¨      So I’d find some links about these ideas that you guys would check out and respond to… I’d probably put those links up today and maybe you could comment by the end of the week¨      Next week we could try to each think of a way you could use technology to increase more productive critiques in our classes¨      Then after spring break we could try out our ideas and then report back if you thought it was effective, what could be better, different, what you might use again, what you definitely wouldn’t
